not the friendliest firm of solicitors in Hampshire.

Philip Kirkland Solicitor

Philip Kirkland

Philip established the firm more than 30 years ago, having previously managed the branch offices of other solicitors for whom he had worked. He qualified as a solicitor over 40 years ago and apart from spending a couple of years in retail management, Philip has been involved in private practice ever since. Philip regards his two years away from the law as a great experience that has helped him appreciate the practical complexities and difficulties often faced by his business clients. During the earlier part of his career, Philip personally covered the whole range of general practice work, including litigation, which has left him with an excellent ‘feel’ for all the work handled by the firm. Philip is thus able to offer valuable input when colleagues are in need of a second opinion. Philip now specialises in business matters of all kinds, including sales and purchases, and commercial and residential property. Together with Peter, Philip is responsible for the management and administration of the firm. Philip also backs up probate, dealing with wills, administration of estates and elderly persons’ law. Philip has lived all his working life in the area served by the firm, which gives him a detailed and very useful understanding of local people and practices as well as neighbouring practitioners and professional contacts.
Philip’s two children have now flown the nest, leaving Philip to enjoy his enthusiasm for France and travel. Philip’s interests include most sports, particularly football and golf, which he watches and plays occasionally, so far as fitness levels permit.

Peter Slade

Peter spent the first ten years of his working life in local government and was admitted as a fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1981. After spells in the legal departments of Southampton City Council and Test Valley Borough Council he left public service and entered private practice, joining our firm in 1984. During his many years with the firm, Peter has cultivated an unrivalled following of loyal clients and extensive network of professional contacts. Peter specialises in property related matters and deals with the whole spectrum of property work, covering both commercial and residential properties. He advises a number of developer clients.
A ‘Sotonian’ born and bred, Peter has lived in Romsey since 1982. He has been married to Liz for 34 years and they have three grown up children. A keen sportsman, Peter competed in hockey for Hampshire and Dorset and played local club cricket for many years. He is an active and enthusiastic member of Stoneham Golf Club and his other hobbies include walking, gardening and cooking.

Hafwen Webb

Hafi, our specialist Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate Solicitor, joined Kirklands upon qualification in 2006. Previously, Hafi’s career was in Information Technology, working for public and private companies with ‘household names’. She also gained a doctorate (PhD) in respect of her geo-archaeological research into how soil movement determines the survival of archaeological sites. Hafi’s varied background, combined with a hands-on approach, enables her to draw upon a wide range of experiences when advising her clients.
From drafting straightforward Wills to preparing complex Trusts with important Inheritance Tax implications, Hafi can accommodate client’s wishes, however large or small and is happy to discuss different approaches to estate planning. Hafi can also advise and assist on the preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorneys and applying for Deputy Orders.

The death of a loved one is extremely sad and sometimes devastating, particularly for those responsible for sorting out the deceased’s personal affairs. Hafi provides a sympathetic and supportive role to her clients by removing uncertainties and reducing anxieties during the administration of an estate. She will advise and assist with the administration of a simple estate and for larger, more complex matters she will take over the whole administrative process.

Jill Donbavand

Jill joined the firm in 1982 as the office junior, before graduating to become Philip Kirkland’s secretary, whereupon she developed a keen interest in residential conveyancing. She attended night school and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. She has worked at the Totton office for some 30 years dealing with all domestic conveyancing and has established a very substantial following.
Jill has an outstanding knowledge of Totton and the surrounding area and has excellent working relationships with the local estate agents and conveyancers. She prides herself on her ability to provide a friendly, approachable and efficient service to all her clients, which is why they (and their families) come back again and again.

Away from the office Jill enjoys walking her dog, spending time with her family and those all important holidays in the sun.

Michelle provides a sympathetic and supportive role to her clients by removing uncertainties and reducing anxieties. She prides herself on being friendly, understanding and approachable. Her philosophy is “No question is silly if you don’t know the answer”. She is able to advise and assist with all types of residential transactions – sales, purchases, transfers of equity, mortgages, remortgages and the drafting of Declarations of Trust.

Michelle has a love of sport of any kind but particularly football, rugby and cricket. Having been brought up in the Midlands, she is, for better or for worse an Aston Villa fan.
